Wellington Sewing Centre's selection of yarns is extensive and still growing: it now takes up more than 3 walls of our "wool room" (which was once a separate shop). We call the wool room our happy place as it's so colourful and warm! Between us, our staff members knit, crochet, weave, felt, and do macrame - and we try out new yarns before we commit to buying them, so we know how they perform and how to use them to best effect.
We're proud of the range of yarns we have instore, including from these brands: Alpaca, Ashford, Broadway, Cleckheaton, Countrywide, Crucci, DY Choice, Debbie Bliss,(cotton), Filatura di Crosa, Heirloom, Naturally, Peter Pan, Patons, Shepherd, Touch Yarns, Wendy and Woolly!!
We don't have every type of yarn from every brand (we'd need a warehouse for that!) but if you want a good number of balls of a yarn that we don't stock, and it's by one of the brands we do stock, we can usually get it in for you.
We welcome emails and phone calls about potential online purchases; that way you can check with us about availability and we can answer any other questions you have about the yarn you are considering buying.
When you order yarn from us, we will ensure you get the same batch number/dyelot. Sometimes, especially if you order more than 10 balls, we will have to order in the yarn you need, to ensure you do get the same dyelot. Usually it takes only a few days to get in what you want.
As for knitting needles and accessories and crochet hooks - we have a great selection to choose from! We stock products by Knitpro, Pony, CraftCo, Chiagoo and Clover - and more besides. We love our wool and yarn collection and everything that goes with it!!
We also sell a great range of knitting and crochet patterns in the shop and are always on the lookout for excellent patterns in leaflet or booklet form - as opposed to more expensive pattern books. If you already have a pattern that uses a yarn we don't stock, we can work out which of our yarns you can use instead. We're always ready to offer tips about your knitting or crochet projects-in-progress. We really enjoy seeing what our customers are making or have made. (We particularly like helping choose buttons for finished garments!)
We run regular knitting classes at the shop - for beginners and for those who can knit already and want to learn new techniques - eg sock knitting and top down knitting. On Thursday mornings from 10am to noon, a group of customers gathers around the table in our wool room to knit and natter. It's a free session and new people are always welcome to join in.
PLEASE NOTE: SHADE COLOURS SHOWN ONLINE MAY DIFFER FROM ACTUAL COLOURS DUE TO LIGHTING AND RESOLUTION. IF IN DOUBT, CONTACT US TO DISCUSS YOUR NEEDS.
